Laser Tattoo Removal Frequently Asked Questions

How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

Minimum cost is $120. When you come in for your FREE consultation we will assess and measure your tattoo and make an estimate of cost and the number of treatments needed to remove it.

How many laser tattoo removal treatments will I need?

Every tattoo responds differently due to a number of variables. There are variations in ink, depths and density of ink placement, skin type and individual immune system factors. We estimate between 8-12 treatments but due to all the variables it is only an estimation. However, faded or amateur tattoos that are black can come off in as little as 4 treatments. Professional tattoos can take more than 12 sessions and some are not completely removable. Certain colours, such as yellow, pink and white are difficult to remove. The benefit of the Fotona QX Max laser is it will minimize your treatment times and sessions.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Most clients find laser treatments for tattoos not too uncomfortable and experience a pricking sensation in the skin. Topical numbing cream can also be used (1 hr prior to treatment) to make the process easier. Tailored Tattoo Removal will also use a cold air cooling system during the treatment which will reduce the pain.

Can I use numbing cream?

Yes, we recommended using a Topical Anesthetic numbing cream like Dr. Numb which is currently the best numbing cream on the market. It will numb your skin quick and get you through those laser tattoo removal sessions like a breeze. You can purchase Dr.Numb Numbing Cream from our website or in store.

How do I care for the area after a laser tattoo removal treatment?

You will receive detailed after care instructions during your appointment.

Can I have sun exposure?

It is critical for the treated area to have absolutely zero sun exposure for a minimum of 2 weeks before and after Laser treatment.

How will my skin be after a laser tattoo removal treatment?

The Q-switched laser produces an immediate frosting of the skin. After the procedure you may experience some redness, swelling and scabbing, sometimes blistering. This is a normal process as the body works to eliminate the tattoo dyes. Throughout the treatments new layers of skin grow and the old tattoo is pushed towards the surface. At the same time fragmented pigment is removed internally by scavenger cells. It will eventually form a scab and then disappear, leaving fresh new skin.

How frequently can I return for more laser tattoo removal treatments?

We recommend that you wait at least 6 weeks to get the best results from each laser treatment.

Is there a risk of scarring?

The Fotona QX Max laser used for tattoo removal does not typically leave scars, although there is a small chance of this. We recommend that you follow the after care instructions carefully to avoid this happening. The risk of scarring can increase for dark skin tones, some health conditions, taking certain medications, or having a history of keloids or elevated scarring.

Are tattoo removal creams an alternative?

In simple terms NO! Tattoo removal creams are ineffective, as it is impossible for the cream to penetrate the epidermis through to the dermis, where the tattoo ink lies.
